Scheherazade Intarsia class

Do you love color? Do you love gradient yarns? Have you wanted to learn intarsia but been intimidated by its reputation? The Scheherazade intarsia approach is an easy system for using colorful yarns to their best advantage. Color block intarsia is even tangle-resistant! The class project is perfect for a newer knitter longing to make a stunning project you will wear and love. Technical bonus: this class includes a deep dive into mirroring bar (knit front & back) increases.

Skill level is competent beginner.
Prerequisite: Students should be able to increase and decrease and work garter stitch.

What you will learn:
how to work intarsia in both stockinette and garter stitch
how to use multiple colors without tangling
tricks for designing with color-shifting yarns
tricks for ad finitum knitting — i.e. winning at yarn chicken
how to mirror increases

Maximum 20 students.

Students receive a handout in booklet form; and the pattern to make a scarf, shawl, or ruana are provided as part of the class materials.

No materials fee.

No homework.

Supplies:
  • at least four colors of class yarn (smooth, non-splitting, light or bright or medium color) — small leftover skeins are fine
  • needles to work that yarn in garter stitch

No special needs for the room set up. A whiteboard or flip chart is nice to have but not need to have. I have a projector if the facilities can accommodate it. Room set-up should be tables and chairs either facing forward or in a U-shape.

Note: This class was in "time out" while I worked on writing the full pattern and publishing it to Ravelry. It was published as a free pattern about 22:00 on Monday 25 July 2022. About 15:00 on Wednesday 27 July 2022, I adjusted it to be a paid pattern. At that point, it had over 1000 downloads.
