Entrelac Without Triangles

Entrelac is a delightful technique! Each little block feels like its own piece of success. It shows off color-changing yarns to great effect and can be a great way to scrap-bust. But what about all those triangles? Where to increase, decrease, or join? In this class we will skip the triangles! Entrelac the on the orthogonal is easier. It is a great way to work blanket blocks. We'll even level up with seamless reversible joins.

Skill level is intermediate.
Prerequisite: Students should be able to work stockinette back and forth and work decreases.

What you will learn:
Orthogonal entrelac
Chain-stitch selvedge
Reversible Mondragon-loop joins
A few tricks for working entrelac reversibly, based on the work of Jay Petersen

Maximum 20 students.

½ day workshop

Students receive a handout in booklet form including the Sir Thomas scarf pattern (detail above).

No materials fee. The pattern (normally a paid download on Ravelry) is provided as part of the class materials.

No homework.

Supplies:
  • class yarn (worsted weight, plain, light or bright or medium color, non-splitting)
  • needles appropriate for stockinette in this yarn
  • waste yarn for vertical lifelines
  • removable pin to mark right side of work

No special needs for the room set up. A whiteboard or flip chart is nice to have but not need to have. I have a projector if the facilities can accommodate it. Room set-up should be tables and chairs either facing forward or in a U-shape.
